You may laugh but this is no joking matter when it comes to how well these grapes protect and serve our skin. Any why you may ask? Leave it to these freedom fighters, also known as antioxidants. The eleven letter word that acts as a life saver for your cells is widely found in grape seed oil. Basically, it can protect you from free radicals. Here is your education on free radicals 101:
Free radicals is a term often used to describe damaged cells that can be problematic. They are "free" because they are missing a critical molecule, which sends them on a rampage to pair with another molecule. These molecules will rob any molecule to quench that need. When free radicals are on the attack, they don't just kill cells to acquire their missing molecule. If free radicals simply killed a cell, it wouldn't be so bad… the body could just regenerate another one. The problem is, free radicals often injure the cell, damaging the DNA, which creates the seed for disease. When a cell's DNA changes, the cell becomes mutated. It grows abnormally and reproduces abnormally -- and quickly.
Now that we are aware of the free radicals rampage, we can better equip our lovely cells with substances like grape seed oil. It contains “Vitamin E, which is a chain-breaking antioxidant. Wherever it is sitting in a membrane, it breaks the chain reaction.” [1] This slows down the aging process by providing moisture and protection, and leaving your skin with less wrinkles and lines along the way. We want to use this oil on our skin and consume a diverse selection of anti-oxidant rich foods to protect ourselves with a badass defense system on the inside and outside.
There are other incredible benefits to this oil. It moisturizes the skin immediately, which can really come in handy during these fall and winter months. It can improve under-eye circles, very helpful after a night of holiday partying. It can reduce the presence of acne, always a plus. It can quicken the recovery time of wounds, less pain please! And it can tighten the skin, due to astringent quality. Grape seed extract is a powerful member to have on your team and when your friends want to know what’s got your back (I mean skin) you’ll have your answer.
