5 Easy Tips to Staying Hydrated this Summer

photo

1. Drink  ginger lemon turmeric tea

The amount of vitamin C in this drink is not the only reason you want to drink it. It does so much more; It balances the pH levels in your body, lowers acidity, acts as an anti-inflammatory, keeps your adrenals well and balanced and kids love it! Try keeping some ready on hand in the fridge at any time. This drink will cool you down and keep you hydrated during those hot summer days.

Ingredients:
2-4 inch cube of ginger (skin removed)
2-4 inch cube of turmeric (skin removed)

1 lemon

2 cups of water

1 tablespoon  of honey

Directions:

Bring water to a boil

Add all the ingredients

Reduce to a simmer and steep  for 10 minutes

Drain liquid and either drink warm or place it into your refrigerator to become iced tea

2. Try the SCBI Superba Hydrating mask

In our last post we wrote about all the individual benefits that each ingredient has. The ingredients include rose, gingko biloba, calendula, algae extract and olive leaf. Our clients rave about this mask saying it was "the most hydrated my skin has ever felt" and "the glow it leaves last s for days". This mask is great for traveling and only takes 15 minutes. What more can your skin ask for?

3. Add sea salt to your water

By adding a pinch of sea salt to your water you are doing more than just making it taste like the ocean. By adding sea salt (we like celtic) it keeps your body balanced. It replaces any lost electrolytes and provides an array of minerals (up to 82)  that can regulate the body and can even improve skin. If you are working out or spending a lot of time in the sun, this tip is a must! See the difference in the way you feel. Salt and water are your foundation for hydration.

4. Limit the alcohol

We know, this may not be your favorite tip but alcohol inhibits a hormone called anti-diuretic (ADH). This hormone regulates urine elimination so when you drink the alcohol lowers this hormone causing you to pee more than usual. When you pee more you loose more salt to cause you go into dehydration mode. One way to combat this yet still be able to enjoy your favorite summer cocktail is to:
Remember to eat food before your begin drinking
- Drink high-end, clear alcohol (high quality gin, vodka or tequila)
- Drink a glass of water after every drink
- Add salt to your water to replenish your electrolytes and minerals (see previous tip)

Green And Red Healthy Food

5. Incorporate the most water dense foods into your diet.

By eating more of these fruits and vegetables you are getting a lot more water into your body as well as necessary vitamins and minerals.

fruits: watermelon( great source of electrolytes), grapefruit, cantaloupe (vitamin A), berries (antioxidants), oranges (vitamin c), peaches (potassium), pineapple

vegetables: cucumber, celery, iceberg lettuce, zucchini, tomato, bell peppers (vitamin c), cauliflower/broccoli (calcium, fiber and potassium), eggplant, raw spinach (vitamin a), carrots (antioxidant beta-carotene)
